The National Privacy Principals of the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 sets out 10 National Privacy Principles (“NPPs”), which can be viewed in detail at http://www.privacy.gov.au/publications/npps01.html. Zoos Victoria - Friends of the Zoos (FOTZ) have voluntarily agreed to comply with the NPPs.
FOTZ collects personal information about its members, supporters and users of the participating Zoos that is relevant for the conduct of its operations. Where practicable and where required by the NPPs, individuals will be notified of any special purpose for which the information is being collected at or before the time of collection.
FOTZ uses personal information collected for the purpose of administration and management of membership, promotion of FOTZ activities and functions and publishing and distributing FOTZ publications such as newsletters, programs and reports. Without such information FOTZ would be unable to process membership applications. Personal information may also be collected for the purpose of providing education, entertainment and related services, promoting such services and [market research]. FOTZ may disclose your personal information to organisations such as outsourced mailing houses and printers. Where necessary, FOTZ will enter into arrangements with these entities to keep the information confidential and to ensure that they use the information solely for the purpose of providing services to you. FOTZ has a policy of not disclosing any personal information to third parties without the consent of the person concerned or unless otherwise permitted under the Privacy Act.
[Surveillance cameras may operate within the Zoos for the purpose of patron and animal safety and minimising and detecting unlawful activity. The surveillance tapes may be provided to law enforcement bodies.]
You may request access to your personal information held by FOTZ by contacting us during office hours. FOTZ will deal with such request in accordance with the requirements of the NPPs and the Privacy Act 1988. If you notify FOTZ that personal information we hold about you is not accurate, complete or up-to-date then we will take steps to correct the information. You may request further details about the way that FOTZ handles personal information by contacting the Administration Manager .
FOTZ may include advertising material with any mail out but will not pass members’ personal information to third parties for this purpose without consent. Members will not be sent separate advertising material if the member has requested that it not be sent.
