Friends of the Zoos (FOTZ) is an independent, non-profit organisation established in 1980 to support Zoos Victoria and animal conservation. In 2009 FOTZ embarked on a new direction by commencing establishment of a Charitable Fund and transitioning management of FOTZ annual memberships and operations to Zoos Victoria (ZV)

Our main objectives are to:

• Cultivate a wider understanding and appreciation of wildlife and its need for conservation;
• Encourage and promote interest and support for Zoos Victoria; and
• Provide valued services for our members.

Our support for Zoos Victoria’s 3 zoos, Melbourne Zoo , Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee Open Range Zoo and its conservation strategies, is both financial and non financial.

For example, FOTZ fund raising provides financial support for the zoos and the conservation of endangered wildlife.

FOTZ also provides critical non financial assistance to Zoos Victoria through the provision of volunteer workers  and all Zoos Victoria FOTZ members (over the age of 16) have the opportunity to join our Volunteers.

With  volunteer hours worth over $1.5 million p.a., Zoos Victoria has a valuable and committed partner in FOTZ.
